Short films

The Short films are technical descriptions originally from the American film industry in the early period of cinema. The description is now used almost with short subject.
The short films have no more than 15 minutes and they can have a developed plot but it has to be short because of the time.
Although the North American definition generally refers to films between 20 and 40 minutes, the definition refers to much shorter films in Europe, Latin America and Australasia. In New Zealand, for instance, the description can be used to describe any film that has a duration longer than one minute and shorter than 15 minutes.

The North American definition also tends to focus much more on character whereas the European and Australasian forms tend to depend much more on visual drama and plot twists.
It is a derivation of the feature film form, usually acting as a platform for aspirant Hollywood directors.

The light in the movies

Ligth is one of the most important things in the movies. Without light there is no cinema. The lights creates shadows, wrinkles, rejuvenate the character or make him/her older, it created psychological effects on the character and depending on where you pput the light it changes the atmosphere of the movie. If you don´t use the light for any documental or films, the film will be incomplete, it will be difficult to see what is actually happening during cameras and will not complete the director's truly idea.

Ratas, ratones y rateros

Hi, this week I am goin to talk about an Ecuadorian movie released in 1999. This movie is called Ratas, ratones y Rateros and was filmed by Sebastian Cordero. This film talks about the delinquency of the country and how the thiefs haves to live everyday in poverty, in drugs, and with unhapiness. Is a drama film that talks about the lost of Salvador's childhood and how he had to handle his live living this way.
In this movie they are not special effects, we see here a lot of camera movement, maybe because the director wanted the audience to feel the excitement of beeing in that kind of poor places of the city of Quito. We see a lot of full shots and medium shots. There is a song that is repeated 3 or 4 times around the movie, maybe to make a feeling of suspence.
At the beginning of the movie we see that is a naked part, basically this movie has an strong content, I actually didn´t like it so much, I thougth it has going to be better, but is wasn´t also the worst. It was okay, but for me the movie was to slow, sometimes the dialogues were boring and there is a lot of use of bad words but I think that Sebastian Cordero wanted to make it s real that even the most insignificant details were importants

SPECIAL EFFECTS : PHYSICAL EFFECTS

Physical effects are usually planned in preproduction and created in production, this effects are performed in front of the camera, we can see that what is placed here is what is going to be putted in the movie. For example:

*the weather effects
*collapsing buildings
* water effects
* pyrotechnics,
* explosions
*weather effects ( the wind) like huracans that can created wind with fans of different sizes and create the effect of a huge mass of air.
*Fire, etc

The greatest changes in the revolution of Physical Effects happened in the 20th century. For example we can see that in Titanic the effect of the water sinkin the boat was a Physical Effect.

Importance of directors in film

*The Director or the film's creator is the main creative force in a film's production, and acts as the most important link between the production, technical and creative teams.
*Directors are responsible for translating the film's written script into actual images and sounds on the screen.
*He/she must visualise and define the style and structure of the film, then act as both a storyteller and team leader to bring this vision to reality.
*Directors' main duties include casting, script editing, shot composition, shot selection and editing.
*Directors must also always be aware of the constraints of the film's budget and schedule.
*Directors are ultimately responsible for a film's artistic and commercial success or failure.
*Directors make crucial decisions, such as selecting the right cast, crew and locations for the film. They then direct rehearsals, and the performances of the actors once the film is in production. Directors also manage the technical aspects of filming, including the camera, lighting, sound, design and special effects departments.
*At all stages, Directors are responsible for motivating the team to produce the best possible results. Directors must also appreciate the needs and expectations of the film's financiers.

For me, director is the head of the film without him/she there will not be any movie because he is the one that make it, the one that create's his own point of view after watching the script and the storyboard. He put all his imagination, his thoughts and everything on it.

Edward's Scissorhands

Hi this week I am going to talk about a movie called Edward Scissor's hand. This movie was directed by the famous Tim Burton and starring with Johnny Depp. In a empty casttle near the city lives Edward, he is a young man created by a death cientific. Edward was like an experiment. He was almost like a human but he had scissors instead of hands. One day a nice make-up Avon seller went to this house and he meet Edward. Later on she decides to take him to live with her and her family. Now he was living in the reality of life and he will discovered love, intolerance, loneliness and pain because he was not accepted. I really love this movie, it is one of my favorite movies because here we can see how is the reality, that if you are different form the other you will not be accepted and that is the thing that we have to change. But a girl makes a difference, Kim that was Peg's daugther ( the make up seller). Kim begans to fall in love of Edward and Edward falls in love with Kim. But his boyfriend was a mean guy that wanted Edward out of the family and he ended up figthing for her love.
We can see in this movie that the costume that Edward use is a black one. He doesn´t have any hands, he has scissors, big ones. He is palid, very whiite with no color and he was cuts in his face because of the scissors. We can see that in the movie there is a prepaired scene for each part. For example the neighborhood is all settled by the director. They use a lot of wide shot, bird eye angle and medium shot.
They use slow motion picture at the end when he is making the snow.
The time the movie is settled is about the 80's

Beetlejuice

Hi! This week I am going to talk about a movie that i really like that is called Beetlejuice, he is a character created by the director Tim Burton and this movie was released in 1988. and he is a ghost that lives in the "no live world" that is the representationof the real world but with the dead´s vision of it. Beetlejuice works as an exorcist of the living people. He help ghosts kicking out the living people of their homes. Beetlejuice is a dirty, rude and rogue man that eats cockroaches. He always use a striped dress and he can transform himself in what he wanted to be.
The movie starring with Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice; Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, a very dark girl that hated her father and her step mother. Charles and Delia Deetz, are por Jeffrey Jones y Catherine O'Hara. The film, a delirious black comedy was a huge success the year that was released, earning only $ 73 million in U.S.

In this movie we can see that the make up and the customs are very important because Lydia is represented as a sad, dark girl. And the make up and customes that the director use are a black drees, dark hair, with a pail white face and dark tones of make up. Also beetlejuice is a ghost and they use a white pail tone for his face and a black shadow for his eyes and lips. In this movie we can see a lot of effects, but by this time it wasn´t to credible like in this time they are. For example the snake they use is CGI. They use the effect that make a character disappears. They use a lot of whide shot, and high angle.

CLONE EFFECT

The clone effect is one of the most common, funny and useful effects for a lot of movies in where twins or similar people appears on the screen for a certain reason. With this effect you can use the same person and you don’t have to use doubles or twins, just with the computer and a program in it you can create your twin! And this is not had to do it, you have to record you twice but with an still camera, and when you are ready, you combined both and with the use of the program you will have them done…

CHEAP BY A DOZEN

Hi, this time I am going to talk about this comic and funny film that was created by Shawn Levy during 2003 and 2005. This film won 2 Oscars awards. It had a budget of $40.00. We can see in this movie a big and great family that shared good and bad moments. These twelve siblings started always fighting but they ended up with hugs and kisses. This movie doesn´t have a lot of special effects. There is a part in the movie that the director uses slow motion when the dad is going to fall over a kid (very funny part jaja). The light is high-light because it is a comedy. Full and bright colors. This is a comedy film, where we can see most of the movie wide shots, because the director want to show us the hole family during the sets, where the entire family appears. In my opinion we should share our moments with our family, because they are the only ones that are going to be with you in bad and good times. If we have little brothers we should take care of them every time, because they need our help. If we have older brothers we should love them a lot, because they know a little bit more about life, and they would teach us how to make the things in the correct way.
This movie "Cheaper by the Dozen" is a remake of the 1950 film based on Frank and Ernestine Gilbreth's book about growing up in a large family, according to a resource.

The mummy returns

Hi! this week I am going to talk about one of my favorite movies, called the mummy returns directed by Stephen Sommers and it talks about the facts that already pass in the first movie. It had been passed 10 years from the first movie and Rick and Evelyn appears in Egypt again, but this time with their son. They got married. Their son has earn the intelligence of his mother and the fearness of his father. In Egypt they discovered a mysterious brazalete of Anubis, and at the same time a woman with the help of other mans had made an excavation in Hamunaptra and they found Imhotep's mommy. When Imhotep returns to live he discovered that he can kill King Scoripion and he would have the control of everything but he needs the help of Alex with the brazalet. At that time Evelyn is kidnapped but later she is saved and the other kidnapped is Alex. Later they have to save Alex and many thing happend. This movie has a lot of special effects and they use CGI for the mummy. For the explosions and the part of the water they usea natural special effects. The clothes and make up let us see that the time is in past, and in the part of Egypt the clothes are mmini skirts like they use in the old Egypt with silver and gold make up. The places are in a lot of locations, in Africa... Europe

Costumes and custome designer

There are a lot of elements that influence the costume design, including the place and the time in wich the character is develop.
-Every piece of clothing used in a film is considered a costume. They are used in films to tell the story:
*Character's personality
*Character's history COSTUME DESIGNER:
-They help the character come alive.
-They are the ones that creates the costume that the character will use in the film, the costume that will represent the personality of the character.
-They have to reseacrh in internet, magazines, books to find the perfect costume for their character to make the people see what the director want to transmitt in his film.
-The designer may exaggerate the color, style and silhouette for dramatic effect.

THE LAST SONG !

Hi, this week I will like to talk about a drama, romance movie call The last song, that was released this year 2010, the director is Julie Anne Robison. A seventeen years old Veronica got upset when her parents got divorced, and her father moved to Tybee Island. She remained angry with her parents, until her mother sended her and his brother to spend the summer with their father. Her father was a former concert pianist and teacher, where he will become the centerpiece of the local church. She found a cute guy in the beach, with the one she started getting in love.

They pass all summer in the beach, knowing from each other. Veronica's father died after been detected of cancer. The message of this film is finding the love in different ways, with your family, friends and your boyfriend.

I think that most of teenagers have problems with their parents, but I think that in this age it is normal to have this kind of problems because we teenagers wanted everything and we have to understand that we have to earn the things we have, also that there are some rules that we have to follow because life is not only fun it is also to have responsabilities but not forgetting the people you love. I think that the most important in the world is our parents, because they are the ones who give us support and ideas, the one who care about us, so we should be glad of having them alive

CHARLES CHAPLIN

Charles Spencer Chaplin was an actorm directos, guionist and musician. He was born in Great Britain in 1889 and died in Swetzerland in 1997. He was a complet autor, because he often wrote the music of their movies. He acts in films during a lot of generations, his comic's performances sparkle during the screen plays. His only prescense in the movies was a secure success for the filmakers. He was the first international star and a living leyend since his early ages.

13 Going to 30!

Hello there! I would like to talk about this comedy film that was released in 2004 by Gary Winick. This movie show us how a 13 young girl wanted to be 30 young woman. She wanted to be a young woman because she wanted to make with her life what she wants. She was not popular when she was young and she was the typically teneager that wanted to have more age and to grow up fast until become adults. I think that teens want this because they want to be free, to do whatever they want. I think that they want to be aduts because they can party everyday, the can drive, drink, they can buy whatever they want, and they can take any decision. In my opinion been a child is the best part of your live and you have to enjoy it because it is a short period. Is different from adults, because adults has to work to survive, pay bills and have many responsabilities. We should take advantage of our childhood and enjoy every moment with our friends, because is the best parto of our lives which we would never forget.

In this movie, we can see that the director doesn´t use a lot of special effects, because it is a comedy. The light they use is high key lighting.

MUSICALS

The musical movies are cinematography genres that are characterized because the dialogues and speches are interrupted by musical fragments and also they are joined by a coreography. At the beginning the objetive of this genre the musical fragment was only to impress the people, with no conection with the dialogues and the narrative. But later on the musicals began to be more mature, to be better and the plays were connected with the film.

The industry of film creates their first musical called "THE MELODY OF BROADWAY" form Harry Beaumont. This movie earns the Oscars and with this the musicals began to apears in the 30´s and it was joined with the black films.

The most famous character of the musicals was Vincente Minnelli.

Later the genre began to decreas, but in 1996 there was a movie called Evita and was protagonized by Madonna and Mouling Rouge that was released in 2001, this movie was a great success. Later Chicago, High School Musical,Hairspray,Sweedney Tod and a lot of musical were later created and this put the musicals on the top again.

That's the true love of the family. n this movie there a lot of special effects like the part when the woman is killed byte train ando also in the surgery part.

CAMERA MOVEMENT

PAN SHOT: a fixed camera pivots on its axis turning form left to right for the puropose of following the action within a shot. In movie and television, pan shot is released by turning horizontally on a vertical axis, but the effect may be enhanced by adding other techniques, such as rails to move the whole camera platform.

CRANE SHOT:A camera positioned on a crane can swoop down or up covering great distances and producing unusual camera angles. They are usually, but not always, found in what are supposed to be emotional or suspensful scenes.

DOLLY SHOT: The camera moves toward a subject (dolly-in) or away from a subject (dolly-out) The camera is mounted on the dolly and records the shot as it moves. Dolly shots have a number of applications and can provide very dramatic footage.

TRACKING SHOT: The camera tracks alonside of the object or person.

ZOOM: Camera stays stationary as the focal length of a lens zooms in or out. Framing gets tighter id the camera zooms in. Framing gets looser of the camera zooms out.Zooming means altering the focal length of the lens to give the illusion of moving closer to or further away from the action.

ZOLLY SHOT: A dolly shot in combination with a zoom.

FIRE PROVE

Hi! This week I am going to talk about a film that is call Fireproof that was released in 2008 by Alex Kendrick.
This movie talks about a fireman, Caleb and he always use to said, "never leave your partner behind", He was married with a young woman call Catherine.
Their marriage is in a bad situation, they are always fighting, they have no communication and it's almost over. Later the father of Caleb gave him a book with advices of how to save his marriage.
I think that in marriage you need to have a good communication and respect, because those are the bases of marriage, also to have respect because love is the synonym of respect. And also you have to think very deeply whit whom you are going to married because this is the most important decision that you are going to take in your life because you are choosing the person that you wanted to spend all your life, that person that will be always with you, in the good ones and bad ones, giving you all your support and love. In every marriage there are problems and fights but that´s life, nothing is perfect and with all that problems you will learn to don’t commit the same mistakes that you commit before.
*This is a drama film, they used low-light, medium shots, back of the shoulder shot and close up.

MAIN FILM GENRES

Films were created to make the audience feel fun, fear, mistery, sadness, etc. Each film has a different story, different plots, and each movie has its own genre that characterized them. Here I am going to show you and give a brief explanation about each filme genre.

MUSIC IN FILM

Music within film is very important. Not only it helps to create the ambience of the film and its plot, it also helps to evoke the emotions of the characters, so that the audience gets to feel the same thing to happen. For example Hitchcock's suspense thrillers, like "Psyco", the music evokes the horror sensation of the plot. Without music, the film won't have as much of an impact as it does with music. Music also helps you to relate to a certain situation within the movie, a sad song resonates with the sadness felt by the characters, for example. And a happy song lifts the mood of the film. In turn, the audience feels the same.

As both music and film sequences are structured in time according to the viewers' perception, there is a strong link between the two when played together. "A viewer has two perceptual modes whilst watching film and listening to music, real time or ontological applies to where the viewer/listener perceives each note or movement, and psychological time in which the composition/film is perceived more subjectively and the viewer takes what they see/hear as a whole". Music is a structuring in time, and film music is especially good a giving the viewer a sense of time passing, although upon watching a film, the music becomes part of the background and somewhat dissolves into the whole viewing entity. The sense of time can alter depending on whether the viewer is watching the film, or listening to the music.

THE PIANIST

Hi! this week I will talk about a movie that is an adaptation based on the autobiography of the Polish composer, Wladyslaw Szpilman, who detailed his survival during World War II, and narrowly escaped a roundup that sent his family to a death camp. A composer and pianist, Szpilman played the last live music heard over Polish radio airwaves before Nazi artillery hit. There, Szpilman struggled to stay alive, even when cast away from those he loved. He spent the duration of the war hiding in the ruins of Warsaw and scavenging for food and shelter. At the end he is rescued by the Russian's and he ended playing the piano in the radio like the beginning.

This is a clear story of fight for your own live and the repercutions that war can bring to your life.
This movie use a lot of wide shots, high angle, medium shots and long shots, because the director wanted to describe briefly the situation that the main character is passing.

*This are some important details and scores of the movie

Production Status: Released

Genres: Art/Foreign, Drama, Adaptation, Biopic and War

Running Time: 2 hrs. 29 min.

Release Date: December 27th, 2002 (LA/NY)

MPAA Rating: R for violence and brief strong language.

Distributors: Focus Features

Production Co.: RP Productions, Heritage Films, Runteam, LLC
Telewizja Polska S.A. (TVP)
Planeta 2010, Canal Plus Poland, Studio Canal, Hermitage Films, Les Films Alain Sarde, Polanski Productions, Roman, Studio Babelsberg Motion Pictures GmbH

U.S. Box Office: $32,519,322

Filming Locations: Berlin, Germany
Warsaw, Poland

Produced in: Poland

*We can see also that the movie use a lot of light in some scenarios but in some cases the director use low light because he wanted to make suspense and to make people feel what main character is feeling during this war time.

*The critical reception was:
The film received extremely positive reviews from critics and Adrien Brody's performance was met with near universal acclaim. The Pianist currently holds a score of 95% on the film rating website Rotten Tomatoes, with the Cream of the Crop critics rating the movie with a score of 94%. Metacritic rates the movie as 85% based on 40 reviews.

By showing Szpilman as a survivor but not a fighter or a hero—as a man who does all he can to save himself, but would have died without enormous good luck and the kindness of a few non-Jews—Polanski is reflecting... his own deepest feelings: that he survived, but need not have, and that his mother died and left a wound that had never healed

COMEDY FILMS

Comedy film is a genre of film in which the main emphasis is on humour. The most common thing in a comedy film is a happy ending. One of the oldest genres in film, some of the very first silent movies were comedies. Comedy, puts much more focus on individual stars, with many former are "make 'em laugh" films designed to elicit laughter from the audience. Comedies are light-hearted dramas, crafted to amuse, entertain, and provoke enjoyment.

The comedy genre humorously exaggerates the situation, the language, action, and characters. Comedies talks the deficiencies, foibles, and frustrations of life, providing merriment and a momentary escape from day-to-day life.

DEAR JOHN

Hi! this week I am going to talk about a movie that really touch my heart and it is called "Dear John" is a timeless romance that will warm your heart. Sergeant John Tyree (Channing Tatum) is home on a two-week leave from Germany. He meets Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) after he dives into the ocean to retrieve Savannah's purse that had fallen off the pier. John and Savannah falls in love at first sight. Savannah is a college student at the University. She is on spring break and is helping build a house for Habitat for Humanity. John joins in with Savannah to help build the house. Along the way a budding romance occurs, and Savannah falls deeply in love with John. As she is about to go back to college, she promises to write John overseas during the next 12-months until he returns to her after completing his enlistment. Their love is put to the test when John reenlists after the 9/11 attack. The end of this movie is confusin because it doesn't tell if the end together but you can assumed that because they met in a coffee station at the end. This movie doesn´t have a lot of special effects because is a drama movie but we can see in the war battle that there is an speacil effect when the soldier shot John. The message of the movie is clear. If you really love someone no matter distance you will always have that person in your heart and never forget her/him. Also maybe we can say that she is apling the phrase that says " If you love someone let him/her go, if she/he comes back is yours if he/she doesn't it was never true love.

FILM EDITING

Film editing is part of the post-production process of filmmaking. It involves the selection and combining of shots into sequences, and ultimately creating a finished motion picture. It is an art of storytelling. Film editing is the only art that is unique to cinema, separating film-making from other art forms that preceded it. Film editing is often referred to as the "invisible art"because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that he or she is not even aware of the editor's work.
On its most fundamental level, film editing is the art, technique, and practice of assembling shots into a coherent whole. A film editor must creatively work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as the actors' performances to effectively "redirect" and even rewrite the film to craft a cohesive whole. Editors usually play a dynamic role in the making of a film.
With the advent of digital editing, film editors and their assistants have become responsible for many areas of filmmaking that used to be the responsibility of others. It is common, especially on lower budget films, for the assistant editors or even the editor to cut in music, mock up visual effects, and add sound effects or other sound replacements. These temporary elements are usually replaced with more refined final elements by the sound, music, and visual effects teams hired to complete the picture.
Film editing is an art that can be used in diverse ways. It can create sensually provocative montages; become a laboratory for experimental cinema; bring out the emotional truth in an actor's performance; create a point of view on otherwise obtuse events; guide the telling and pace of a story; create an illusion of danger where there is none; and even create a vital subconscious emotional connection to the viewer, among many other possibilities.

Forrest Gump

This movie was created in 1994, by Robert Zemeckis. This movie talks about a man that is called Forrest Gump, he is not very small but he has a great heart and he always follow his dreams. This movie is characterized because it has some montages like the meetings with Elvis Presley, JFK, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, John Lenon, and some other scenarios like Vietnam, Savannah etc.
We can see that the most important value in the movie is that you never have to give up your dreams, your wishes and your objectives. Forrest was always supported by his mom, he always listen to her, and that is also a lesson;we have to hear what our parents told to us because they only want the best for us. Even though he was a little retarded he ended been a very good husband, a good friend, by saving his friends life from death, also how healthy he was by making some sports. He was a good father, a good shrimper, a good son. We also see here that the spiritual part exist, when the mom of Forrest pray for him and also he prays for his friends and Jenny. He was a simple, humble, and a a honest man. This movie started with flashbacks and many scenarios, many changes, that can let us notice how years were passing by. At the end of the movie Forrest have to take care of his son, and in the end there is a symbolism in the movie when the bird feather is under the foot of Forrest, that means that Jenny do become a bird :)

MY SISTER´S KEEPER

hi! this week I would like to talk about a drama film directed by Nick Cassavetes and released in 2009. Anna, the eleven years old sister of Kate and Jesse wants to emancipate from her mother, with the help of a lawyer. This girl wants to emancipate from her mother because she refuses to donate her kidney to her sister Kate. Since Anna was little she has been helping her sister donating many organs and with many medical exams. Her sister Kate has Leukemia, so her mother Sara went to the court to obligate her daughter Anna to donate her kidney to her sister. But Sara doesn't want to accept that her daughter Kate wants to die, because she believes that she will not survive the surgery. Anna won the case and after that, Kate died. Most of the movie we can se flashbacks where it shows us how was Kate's life, her life was not easy, she had to pass from many surgeries, chemotherapies, and vomiting. I think that this movie proves us how the love of a mother can be so big that you don´t care about anything child. But everything happens for a reason, and God knows about it.This film proves us and makes us think about the love that we have to have for our family because we don´t know when they are going to go out of our lifes and is important to enjoy every minute with the people that you love especialy with your family

Dirty dancing

This is a movie placed in the 1960s, Frances "Baby" Houseman, a sweet daddy's girl, goes with her family to a resort in upstate New York's Catskill Mountains.Baby has grown up in privileged surroundings. Unexpectedly, Baby becomes infatuated with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny. Baby lies to her father to get money to pay for an illegal abortion for Johnny's dance partner (Johnny is not the father). She then fills in as Johnny's dance partner and it is as he is teaching her the dance routine that they fall in love. It all comes apart when Johnny's friend falls seriously ill after her abortion and Baby gets her father, who saves the girl's life. He then learns what Baby has been up to, who with and worse - that he funded the illegal abortion. He bans his daughter from any further association with "those people". Because of this, Baby later sneaks out to see Johnny and she apologize for her father's rudeness and ends up consummating her relationship with Johnny. A jealous fellow vacationer sees Baby sneaking out of Johnny's bungalow the next morning and in an act of retribution, tells management that he is responsible for a theft the evening before. In an act of bravery, Baby states that Johnny is innocent, and alibis him by confessing that they were together all night. This revelation causes a huge rift in the family and Baby makes an impassioned speech to her angry and bereft father. At the closing night performances, and although he has been fired and banned from attending, Johnny returns and takes the stage to tell everyone about the woman whose faith in him and whose courage changed his life. They do one final show-stopping dance together. Baby's father learns that Johnny was not responsible for his partner's pregnancy and learns to accept that although his beloved daughter is transitioning to womanhood, she will always love him.

The blue lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a 1980 American romance and adventure film starring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, produced and directed by Randal Kleiser.
The film tells the story of two young children that were on a ship, but the ship sinks so they and the chef get in a boat and they survived. They got into on a tropical island paradise in the South Pacific. The story tells about the way of living in the island, how they get the food, how they built their place to live, etc. One they the chef died and they have to manage their lives alone. They only have each other.
Actually they were ignorant because nobody has told them the rules of society and emotional feelings and physical changes arise as they reach puberty and fall in love even thougth they were cousins.Later on, they have sexual relationships and they have a son. At the end they ate a poisonous plant and they fall sleep.

I really love this movie, is so romantic the way they love each other, they don´t have anybody than their selves and they do work team to built their home and to bring food to eat. This teach us that no matter where you are, that person that you love is the most important thing you can have and you will supperate everything if you have the company of that special person.

SHOTS

In film, a shot is a continuous strip of motion picture film, created of a series of frames, that runs for an uninterrupted period of time. Shots are generally filmed with a single camera and can be of any duration. A shot in production, defined by the beginning and end of a capturing process, is equivalent to a clip in editing, defined as the continuous footage between two edits. Frames, shots, clips, scenes, and sequences form a hierarchy of units fundamental to many tasks in the creation of moving-image works.

WIDE SHOT In photography, film and video, a wide shot typically shows the entire object or human figure and is usually intended to place it in some relation to its surroundings. Long-shot ranges usually correspond to approximately what would be the distance between the front row of the audience and the stage in live theatre.

MEDIUM SHOT
In film,a medium shot is a camera shot from a medium distance. Medium shots are relatively good in showing facial expressions but work well to show body language.Depending where the characters are placed in the shot, a medium shot is used to represent importance and power.

CLOSE-UP
In film, and still photography and the comic strip medium a close-up tightly frames a person or an object.Close-ups display the most detail, but they do not include the broader scene. Moving in to a close-up or away from a close-up is a common type of zooming.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP The shot is so tight that only a fraction of the focus of attention, such as someone's eyes, can be seen.

TWO SHOT
A Two shot is a type of shot employed in the film industry in which the frame encompasses a view of two people

THREE SHOT
three shot has three people in the composition of the frame. In these shots the characters are given more importance; this type of image can also be seen in print advertising.

Film in the 20´s

The Big Five

1920-1930 was the decade between the end of the Great War and the Depression following the Stock Market Crash. Film theaters and studios were not initially affected in this decade by the Crash in late 1929. The basic patterns and foundations of the film industry (and its economic organization) were established in the 1920s. The studio system was essentially born with long-term contracts for stars, lavish production values, and increasingly rigid control of directors and stars by the studio's production chief and in-house publicity departments. After World War I and into the early 1920s, America was the leading producer of films in the world - using Thomas Ince's "factory system" of production, although the system did limit the creativity of many directors. Production was in the hands of the major studios (that really flourished after 1927 for almost 20 years), and the star system was burgeoning.

Originally, in the earliest years of the motion picture industry, production, distribution, and exhibition were separately controlled. When the industry rapidly grew, these functions became integrated under one directorship to maximize profits, something called vertical integration. There were eight major (and minor) studios (see below) that dominated the industry. They were the ones that had most successfully consolidated and integrated all aspects of a film's development. By 1929, the film-making firms that were to rule and monopolize Hollywood for the next half-century were the giants or the majors, sometimes dubbed The Big Five. They produced more than 90 percent of the fiction films in America and distributed their films both nationally and internationally. Each studio somewhat differentiated its products from other studios.

Formalism

Formalist film theory is a theory of film study that is focused on the formal, or technical, elements of a film: i.e., the lighting, scoring, sound and set design, use of colour, shot composition, and editing. It is a major theory of film study today.

*Formalist film makers shape and mold the images we see on the screen the way a sculptor shapes and molds clay. Their approach to film emphasizes their ability to create story and emotion through manipulation.

* Or one might consider the synthesis of several elements, such as editing, shot composition, and music. Formalism is unique in that it embraces both ideological and auteurist branches of criticism. In both these cases, the common denominator for Formalist criticism is style.

Realism in film

Realism is often situated somewhere between the codes of classical cinema and the innovation of the avant-garde. Though these kinds of realist films do not entirely do away with plot and plausibility, they often bend the rules of continuity, motivation, and genre that characterize commercial filmmaking. In particular, realist films often include moments of narrative ambiguity that would never be allowed in the classical Hollywood narrative.

Realism brings to the screen individuals and situations often marginalized by mainstream cinema and society. Realism brings to the screen individuals and situations often marginalized by mainstream cinema and society.

Like the avant-garde, realism invents new configurations of the visible and new forms of representing the real.

Showing actors, faces, people who had rarely or never been shown on the screen, or who had only been seen through stereotypes, was part of cinematic realism's way of reconfiguring the world.

Realism situates its characters socially and economically, and economic hardship is often one of the motivating forces of the realist films' plot. Finally, while realist films are not documentaries, they claim a privileged relation to a reality outside of the movie theatre. Realism foregoes historical dramas and period pieces in order to focus on the actions of the contemporary world.

The notebook

The movie starts in a nursing home with Duke reading to an older woman, whose memory is slipping from her more and more everyday. Duke reads the story of two lovers who meet in the south at a carnival. Allie was 17. A city girl from money, and Noah was a country boy. The two spend the whole summer together but Allie is forced to move and go to college although she was willing to give it up for Noah. Noah writes Allie 365 letters and she never gets them. So he restores the house him and Allie went to one night out of 'labor of love' he do this because he thougth that by restouring the house Allie will return to him. Seven years pass and Allie meets and falls in love with a wealthy soldier Lon. When seeing Noah's picture in the paper, Allie is drawn back to him. They spent a few days together and she doesn't want to leave. Allie has to chose between her fiancé and Noah. But at the end she choose her true love, and that was Noah.

I really love this film, is so romantic how if you really someone no matter if you met new people, your heart will always belong to that person. A lot of things happens inthe movie but their love keep them together until dead, like Allie says to Noah before they died.

Optical Illusion

The broad definition of an optical illusion is essentially any image perceived by your eyesight to be visually deceptive.

There are many different classes of optical illusion, relating to distortion of shape, color, pictures, size and distance, geometric, sensory perception, and hallucinogenic illusions. Some optical illusions occur without any other stimuli other than the image itself, others rely on your own voluntary eye movement to produce an illusionary effect. Others rely on us to focus on a particular point of the image.

An optical illusion occurs because the different cells and receptors of the eye perceive images and colors at different rates, which sometimes result in a false image being relayed to the brain. The brain receives information from receptors in the eye, but in actuality, the eye only perceives a certain quantity of visual information at any given time, while our brain continuously decodes, constructs and reconstructs visual information, giving us the illusion of continuous sight. The right combination of colors, shapes, spatial relations, and other stimuli viewed by the eyes and reported to the brain during the relays of information can achieve the effect of an optical illusion.

Titanic

Well, I am going to talk about one of my favorite movies... Titanic; written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron about the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The main stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, are two members of different social classes who fall in love aboard the ship. Titanic is an American disaster/romantic and drama film that turned out to be an enormous critical and commercial success. Nominated for fourteen Academy Awards, it won eleven, including Best Picture. It became the highest-grossing film of all time, with a worldwide total of over $1.8 billion.

The story in a summary goes like this...

84 years later a 100-year-old woman named Rose DeWitt Bukator tells a story to her grandaugther and the crews of the searching of the sink Titanic about her life set in April 10th 1912, on the ship when young Rose boards the departing ship with the upper-class passengers and her mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, and her fiancé, Caledon Cal Hockley.
Meanwhile, a poor guy and artist named Jack Dawson and his best friend Fabrizio De Rossi win third-class tickets to the ship in a game. And she explains the whole story from departure until the death of Titanic on its first and last voyage April 15th, 1912 at 2:20 in the morning.

At the ship Rose feels helplessly trapped by her situation and makes her way to the aft deck and thinks of suicide until she is rescued by Jack. Cal is therefore obliged to invite Jack to dine at their first-class table where he suffers through the slights of his snobbish hosts. In return, he spirits Rose off to third class for an evening of dancing, giving her the time of her life.Rose's mother & Cal Hockley try desperate measures to keep them apart. But that strategy goes out the window when the Titanic collides with an iceberg, and due to a design flaw begins to sink - despite being proclaimed 'unsinkable'. At the end Jack make Rose to promised him that she will live and will have babys and that she is going to be a survivor, after she promised him that Jack die.

The end of the movie is a little confuse ,James Cameron wanted the viewers to decide for themselves,we can pick for ourselves what happens as he said in an interview. People ask if Rose ath the end died in her bed or she wast just dreaming but personally, I think Rose died becausse:
1)She did all of her promises Jack told her and one of them was dying an old lady.
2)At the end of the movie she wasn't breathing
3)At the end of the movie she goes back to titanic. I have heard that when people die they go back to when they were most happy, which is their heaven and that was when Rose was with Jack.
4) It was a perfect ending if she died and ended up with Jack.

Hope you liked this c:
